Janitzio is one of the islands of Lake Patzcuaro, located in the State of Michoacan, Mexico. It is the largest of the five islands, followed by Yunuen, Lake Patzcuaro.
Janitzio is famous for the large amount of tourism it receives, from both Mexico and around the world. At the top of the island, observable from afar, there is a monument of the national hero of the revolution of independence (with his right arm raised and his fist), Jose Maria Morelos y Pavon. This monument contains within it a collection of paintings depicting the biography of the Mexican hero. There is a viewpoint in the structure in the fist of the monument where you can admire all around the island as well as a large proportion of Lake Patzcuaro.
